Best Architecture Award, Team 6, in the
Rice Design Alliance’s design charrette,
Awakening Willow Waterhole

Camilo Parra was a member of Team 6, which also included: Genevieve Buentello, Antonio Flamenco, Mike Garcia, and David Robinson. Team 6 won honors for the BEST ARCHITECTURE in the Awakening Willow Waterhole charette. The drawing, done by Antonio Flamenco, is of the proposed Nature Center. Special thanks to Karen Rose as the civil engineering consultant and Keiji Asakura for his support in absentia.

This year’s design charrette, Awakening Willow Waterhole, took place on Saturday, August 7 at the Rice School of Architecture. The competition focused on maximizing the potential of the Willow Waterhole Greenway Project, a 279-acre greenspace featuring six detention lakes designed to reduce flooding along Brays Bayou. Participants drafted designs to transform the park from a disjointed neighborhood space into a more cohesive, natural community space. The charrette conceptualized measures to make the park a more sophisticated nature preserve, while maintaining characteristics that make the park a welcoming area for various forms of wildlife.
